1. Most Improved Handicap Award.
The Competition Committee will award a $50.00 gift certificate to the Club
member in each of the 5 classes whose handicap as of the CDGA Handicap
Adjustment Date in September, 2008 represents the greatest percentage
decrease from his 2007 season ending handicap. (New members with an
established handicap as of October, 2007 will use that handicap; otherwise
new members will not be eligible for the award until they establish a
handicap as of the end of the 2008 season.)
2. Blanchard Cup Tiebreaker Clarified:
If two competitors are tied after 18 holes in a Blanchard Cup match, then
the handicap differential between the two players will be determined before
the playoff begins. The stroke differential will be applied by the player
with the higher handicap in the handicap order described on the Winnetka
Golf Club score card.
Example: Player A is a 15 handicap and Player B is a 9
handicap. After 18 holes they are tied. During the sudden death playoff,
Player A will receive one stroke on handicap holes #1-6 as they appear on
the scorecard. Player B (the lower handicap player) will receive no
handicap strokes during the playoff. The playoff will continue until a
Player wins a hole by recording a lower (net) score on the hole and this
closes out the match.
3. Jim Walker Cup.
The Club Championship Trophy has been renamed in honor of the late Jim
Walker, former Club champion, Club Member and ranger, who passed away in
December, 2007.
4. Spring Scramble – New Event.
To get the season started, the Committee has authorized a Spring Scramble to
be held (weather permitting) on Saturday, April 12 for all Members who care
to participate and who sign up in advance. There will be a $10.00
registration fee. Prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served
after the event. (Cancelled due to inclement weather.)
5. Hole-in-One Competition Eligibility
Clarified. The Club will once again sponsor a
season long hole-in-one competition for its Members. However, in order to
avoid any confusion a person will be awarded a prize at the Fall Banquet if
he:
a. is a current dues-paid Member at the time he
records the hole-in-one at the Winnetka Golf course;
b. the hole-in-one must have occurred in a regular
round in accordance with the USGA rules -- no mulligans, playing a second
ball, etc.; and
c. the score must be recorded on a Winnetka Golf
course scorecard, which is attested by either another Club member or a
member of Winnetka’s professional staff.
6. Flag Day Event Now Gross (not Net).
Unlike in 2007, each Member playing in the 4th of July event will
have 71 strokes to move the flag in his Handicap Class as far as he can.
The player in each class who moved it the farthest, will receive a $20 gift
certificate. If two or more Members advance the flag in their Class to the
18th green, the player with the greater number of strokes
remaining from his 71 stroke allotment will be the winner. (A secondary
tie-breaker would be the fewest total strokes on holes #15-18.)
7. Club Championship Format Revised.
Unlike in 2007 and earlier years, which featured 20-24 or more players on
each day of the competition, beginning in 2008:
a. the field will be limited to the 16 Members
with the lowest handicaps (as of a week before the event) who sign-up to
play. First round will be played on Saturday, September 6th; and
b.
the final round will be cut to the 8
Members/participants (and ties) with the lowest scores from the first round.
8. Couples Event.
Due to course renovations last September, this event was cancelled. It will
be reinstated for 2008 and held on Saturday, September 14th.
9. October Event. A
post-season event, a Class Stroke Play Competition, will be held on
Saturday, October 11th. The event will be unofficial, and will
feature the top 8 Win-Point Members in each Class who wish to participate.
The player with the lowest net score within his Class will be declared the
winner. (An entry fee will be required and prizes will be awarded.)
10. Kimmel as 2008 Handicap Chairman.
Steve Kimmel has agreed to be the Club’s representative to the CDGA and the
Winnetka Golf Club with regard to all handicap matters during the coming
season.
11.
Winnetka – Pine Meadows Competition has been cancelled;
but the Winnetka – Glenview Competition has been arranged for May 31st and
June 1st. Day 1 is at Glenview and Day 2 is at Winnetka.
12. New Tee Markers.
For all competitions in 2008, the Championship and A Class Members will play
from the Black Tees; Class B and C from the Blue Tees; Class D from the
White Tees.
